Cassper Nyovest Net Worth 2018 And Biography
BIRTH, FAMILY BACKGROUND, AND BEGINNING
Cassper Nyovest was born in the town of Montshiwa, Mafikeng in the Northwest province of South Africa in the year 1990 on the 16th of December. He was christened Refiloe Maele Phoolo, by his parents who were school teachers. He was enrolled in Sol Plaatje secondary school where he had his high school education. Cassper was a very active child back then in school and was involved in different sporting activities such as basketball, cricket, and football.
When he was in the 10th grade, he failed his exams which annoyed his parents and this prompted him to move to Potchefstroom to stay with his grandmother in order to be free from their wrath. At a stage, he made the decision to quit high school so he could focus more on his music career as he started rapping earlier at the age of 12. This did not go down well with his parents though, as they wanted him to complete his education. In his own words:
“I told my parents that I’d rather chase my dream, which I believe is going to work out, rather than keeping it safe and regret it my whole life”.
He again moved in the following year, this time to Johannesburg so he fully concentrates on his career and pursues his dreams (the journey to success had only just begun).
One of Cassper Nyovest’s earliest inspiration to rap was his elder brother “Khotso Motebang Phoolo”. Sadly though, his brother lost his life in 2003 and this spurred on the very young Cassper to take on the hip-hop world. After his move to Johannesburg years later, he was offered a record deal by “Impact Sounds”, a South African record label and got signed to them. Ironically though, they were unable to impact on his career as for the two years he was in the record label, he was unable to release a single record. This made him leave the record label to start his own company, “Press Play Music”. His efforts though were unsuccessful and he had to return home.
The determination of Casper Nyovest though, made him continue performing at any show and event he could perform at. A few months down the road, he was fortunate to have caught the eye of South African legend HHP who saw him performing and was highly pleased with his performance. HHP decided to give him a chance and featured him on the song “Wamo Tseba Mtho” on his Dumela album. HHP also took him along while embarking on his international tour. Thus, Cassper Nyovest was able to gain much-needed exposure as a musical artiste performing together with artiste such as Wizkid, Nas and Kid Cudi on the same stage. This skyrocketed his musical career.
Fast forward to 2013, he released his first official single “Gunsheshe” from his then-forthcoming debut album “Tsholofelo”. The song was received with much acclaim and was highly rated. He ruled over South African meida-ways at the time as his song received massive airplay. A video was shot to further promote the single.
After the release of “Gunsheshe”, Cassper Nyovest released his second single “Doc Shebeleza”. On the official South African music chart, the song peaked at number 4, it received wonderful ratings from critics and legends such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka endorsed it. The song made him very successful. His album “Tsholofelo” was for 2 consecutive months, on the number 1 spot on South Africa iTunes album chart.
In the year 2014, he was adjudged the best African rapper by music channel MTV Base and as second best South African rapper also by MTV Base. In 2015, he released the platinum edition of “Tsholofelo” printing only 10,000 copies. The first single off this album titled “Mama I Made It” was released in the month of August 2015 and in just moments after its release, it became the number 1 song on iTunes South Africa. He sold out his 2015, The Dome Concert. In the same year, he was adjudged as the Hottest MC in Africa by foremost Nigerian music site notjustok.com. In 2016 he was on the number 1 spot for the list put together by MTV Base for the Hottest MCs in South Africa.
In March 2018 Cassper Nyovest released a song in which he collaborated with Nigerian music powerhouse Davido. The song is titled “Check On You”.
